Rent in Tokyo is very expensive and my friend was already living and working for Khaosan and he said that the staff and managers were really good people. Its a good way to save money and live in Tokyo.

Some of my closest friends now (after 9 months having finished working at Khaosan) are my old roommates/cleaning buddies from Khaosan. Those people I lived with and even though we had some crappy times I still miss them and hope to see them whenever they are in Tokyo again.

Don't take anything too seriously. Think of this as a "transistional stage" and that you are gonna move onto bigger and better things after this. So just, sit back, relax, and enjoy the time there. |

The main reason why I decided on joining the Khaosan cleaning team was simply because it was a fantastic way of meeting and forming closer friendships with people, as well as the offer for free accommodation ? which was good for money!

I was working as a Chef and living in Melbourne, Australia…
A lot of my time was spent at various cafes, live music and festivals… I participated in certain environmental issues such as ‘The Save the Ridge Campaign’ etc… Then I thought It would be a wonderful idea to come to Japan - haha

My plans are to; play music, do arts such as painting, drawing, design and fashion… also studying ? psychology, anthropology and philosophy. I would like to go back to Japan and study the Japanese language.

The important things you need are good security, comfort and style… you need a great atmosphere along with friendly guests and staff, access to computers, telephones and tourist information.
●カオサンで一番楽しかったこと：
The thing I enjoyed the most about the Khaosan experience was that the beds had curtains for privacy, friendly staff who are willing to do as much as possible to make your stay a pleasurable one.
I would have to say I loved the sociable structure of the common room, making it more possible for people to meet and greet and become close friends.
●困った事：
Because I was there for such a long time, I found it hard when close friends would leave before I did… being in Australia now I have found I am missing the hostel because it became like a second home to me ? I miss the people!

For the hostel ? I had such a wonderful time! Thank you for making my experience so unique!!
For future cleaning staff ? This is a wonderful experience - take everything you can out of it and enjoy!!

In spring 2007 I slept at Khaosan Tokyo Smile & I found myself really good. The hostel has a great international atmosphere & Asakusa is my favourite place in Tokyo...Sumida river is my love!<3 So one year later I joined. I wanted to have fun & improve my Japanese.

I joined cleaning staff to help fund the rest of my trip. Not having to pay for the bed saved heaps of money. Also, getting to hang out with the other help staff was great, They were all heaps of fun!

10am - go to flea market by yoyogi after drinking all night in Golden guy (Shinjuku/ Kabukicho)
12pm - sleep for a few hours while listening to cleaning staff vaccuming : )
5pm - go eat ramen.. near to asakusabashi..
6pm - walk along the river with a few Asahi beers in hand
8pm - Meet with Masa and Akichan and go to Izakaya and stuff our faces with skewers of meat and sake
12pm - Go to Karaoke in Shibuya and sing until our throats are dry!
5am - Fall asleep on the train back to Asakusa and wake up half way back from where you started!
